About Milk & Dust

Square

Milk & Dust is a digital space created by Singapore-based couple Angela Goh and James Wooldridge. We started this website as a means of sharing the best of what Singapore and the rest of the world have to offer to other modern food lovers, travel enthusiasts, and lifestyle hunters. Be it a cosy cafe on a hard-to-find street in Tokyo, a secret beach on the west coast of Phuket, an exciting new boutique hotel in Singapore, or even just a cute clothing store selling weird hats just around the corner, we aim to keep the art of trying new things and exploring new places alive.

If there’s a story you’d like us to share, a quirky dish you’d like us to try, a great adventure you’d like us to experience, we’d love to hear what you have to say!

Writing has always been a huge part of my life. In 2012, I started my first food and travel blog as a side hobby. It garnered over 3,000 followers and 285,000 pageviews. In 2016, I did a stint with a Singapore-based digital women’s magazine and crafted editorial content across a broad range of lifestyle categories including fashion, beauty, culture, food, travel, and health. After contributing over 600 articles to the publication, I moved on to helping a small luxury confectionery company build its brand from 2017 to 2019. During the gig, I got to travel to some amazing places, from Penang to Switzerland! Right now, I work as a Content Editor at a travel startup.

Photography is another love of mine. Many of the photographs you see on this website have been taken by either myself or James. While I am by no means a “professional” photographer (honestly, I’ve been shooting with the same basic DSLR camera for 8 years, which you can now only get secondhand because it’s a discontinued model), I believe it’s not really about the gear you carry with you. Rather, it’s about the passion you have for capturing something special.

What else do I love? Rooibos tea with a hint of vanilla. Vallis Alps. Led Zeppelin. The Beatles. Making shiratama dango from scratch (it’s very therapeutic). Wandering the streets of Tokyo at night. Chocolate chip cookies fresh out of the oven. Shelties. Young adult fiction.

Here, I act as Assistant Photographer, and occasionally I help with the difficult tech stuff, but not too often, because Ange is pretty good at solving tech issues on her own. I have a background in software engineering and I enjoy the challenges of taking on projects that require some amount of programming. But let’s talk about something more related to Milk & Dust, shall we?

Food. I’m a sucker for good food. I like learning about food from different cultures, I like watching food documentaries, I like seeing chefs cook, I like watching cooking videos on YouTube. I’m a simple guy. Eating and cooking are what I do best. I have way too many favourite foods to name, but I have a real weakness for tonkotsu ramen loaded with chashu and served with ajitsuke tamago, bak kut teh with lots of pepper and garlic, and numbingly good mala hot pot. Also, because I’m Aussie, I fancy a good sausage sizzle once in a while. I only drink good coffee, otherwise, what’s the point?

If you can’t tell, Angela wrote this section for me, because I am no writer. I just gave her some vague suggestions on what to say (actually, I gave her five words: “I like cooking and eating”, and told her to fill in the blanks). I think she did all right.
