Look closely at a map of Phuket’s west coast and you’ll notice a stretch of shore between Surin Beach and Kamala Beach. This is the secret Laem Singh Beach. You might easily dismiss this spot as being wildly inaccessible, but lo and behold, it really isn’t as difficult to get to this beach as you might think. While it requires a sure-footed journey along the rocky cliffs by the sea, all you need is decent balance and the patience to tackle a 20-minute cliffside trek that follows the coastline. As a bonus, you’ll be constantly rewarded with views of the ocean as you make your way to the secret beach.
Say goodbye to crowds, say hello to paradise
Laem Singh Beach is one of Phuket’s best untouched beaches simply because there is no direct access down to the sandy shore. Tourists looking to be dropped off by car or taxi will have to take the long way around. This enhances the secluded nature of the beach. No crowd equals plenty of time to pick the perfect spot to unwind without being disturbed. Want to look at fish? Gentle waves and rocky shallows along the southern end make for great snorkelling. For a more open swimming area, the northern end brings in more waves.
How to get to Laem Singh Beach – a first-timer’s guide
Going on foot? It’s best to make the climb to Laem Singh Beach when the tide is low.
- At the southern-most tip of Surin Beach, you’ll find a seafood restaurant with a great view of the sea. Foodie tip: the restaurant is pretty rustic, but it’s a good spot to have dinner and watch the sunset.
- Go past the restaurant towards the rocks and start your climb. You’ll come to a sign saying “Laem Singh Beach” that points you in the right direction.
- Most of the trail is shaded by trees, but you’ll probably work up a sweat. Continue to follow the trail along the coast until you come to a cafe. It overlooks the secret beach to the north. We’re not sure how this cafe survives with such a slow trickle of visitors, but you can recharge here.
- Laem Singh Beach is just down the rocks from the cafe.
Don’t want to climb? You can actually pay someone to take you to the secluded beach by boat.
- As you make your way through the southern end of Surin Beach, you’ll find signs indicating boat rides available for Laem Singh Beach. It can cost as little as 100 baht per person.
- There is no pier at either beach, so you’ll have to get your feet wet when you get on and off your boat.
